INSTITUTIONAL BROKERS ESTIMATE SERVICE (I/B/E/S/) Company History and Philosophy I/B/E/S International Inc. is a global financial provider best known as the premier source of earnings expectations information. The Institutional Brokers Estimate System (I/B/E/S) was created in 1971 as the first database of analysts' earnings expectations. Before I/B/E/S was established, the relationship between stock prices and earnings expectations could not be proven conclusively. Largely because of the existence of the I/B/E/S database and the firm's commitment to earnings expectations research, studies were completed which proved this relationship. Today, investors worldwide accept the fact that stock prices are driven by earnings expectations. The original I/B/E/S US database was supplemented by a Canadian database in 1981, an International database in 1986, and an Emerging Markets database in 1992. Today, I/B/E/S covers over 18,000 companies in 52 markets worldwide. In addition to current earnings forecast data, I/B/E/S maintains a historical database dating back to 1976 for US companies and 1987 for International companies. I/B/E/S also provides forecast data for cashflow, dividends and profit before tax as well as stock recommendations. |
